Halloween is just a couple of weeks away, and it is time to make those candy purchases! But does it ever concern you that the top ingredients in your child's Trick-or-Treat bag are harsh chemicals and dyes that are clearly not good for their teeth, let alone their consumtion? At the same time, you probably don't want to be that neighbor that hands out tooth brushes instead of candy. Let's face it, most of the children Trick-or-Treating have a tooth brush, it's just a matter of actually using it.
Well, to avoid the whole mishap of least cool mom in the neighborhood, what about passing out the most delicious candy you have ever tasted, free of chemicals, and unnatural ingredients? That's right … YummyEarth is an organic candy company devoted to just that.
Today we will take a look at YummyEarth Candy Company, a completely organic manufacturer of lollipops, gummies, and artisanal candies. After an interview with Rob Wunder, Co-Founder of YummyEarth, we discovered some of the secrets that make their company and products so amazing. Four years after beginning the company, Wunder is just as excited about his position as he was at the establishment, and it is due to the fact that he can confidently sell his organic products and make his customers happy.
According to Wunder, YummyEarth's mission is, "Mouthwatering, unforgettable, organic family treats." Who doesn't want a part in that? He also noted that their main objective is, "To share safe, affordable, and fabulously delicious treats with the world, and have fun doing it." With that much passion and enthusiasm, it is clear that Wunder believes in his products.
When I heard organic candy, I must say I was a little concerned. It sounded like something moms would love, but kids would not be interested in. Then I saw this Video on YummyEarth, and it is clear that kids love the pops! In fact, the products are often tested and named by children. Wunder's sons have been incredibly instrumental in naming products like the "Wet-Face Watermelon" lollipop. It was named specifically after Wunder watched, "little Jonah bury his face in and devour a watermelon when he was two years old."
Today, his sons are even involved in package design and new product ideas. Wunder refers to them as oompa loompas. "We pay them in lollipops and gummy bears."
It is no wonder that YummyEarth is so successful in what it does. The candy business is run by two dads who are completely devoted to their families. It balances the parental concern of ingredients and the youthful concern of flavor, to be the "Number 1 Organic Candy Company in America."
As far as consumers go, it is to their benefit that the founders of this company keep their familes first. Wunder said, "We use the best ingredients we can find and fastidiously work for months developing and improving flavors. We are consumed perfectionists that delight in sharing our creations with our customers, who we consider to be our neighbors down the block." When the leaders of a company consider consumers close friends, and would not create anything that they would not personally test on their children, it is generally a good sign that the products are safe and high quality. Wunder considers the products treats he would make for his family.
Interestingly, Sergio Bicas (the other Co-Founder) and Rob Wunder only have a $1 a year salary. Their goal is not to be personally profitable in the candy business. In fact, the products are sold at cost. It is a much greater consideration for them to change the face of the candy industry. Their desire is to provide safer products for their children and others to consume, free of chemical preservatives, pesticides, and dyes.
So, what else does YummyEarth do for the environment? They actually negotiated and helped several individuals begin their own sustainable sugar farms near the factory. They are keeping their business local, while stimulating the local economy by employing more people involved in external aspects of the business.
Finally, we asked Wunder when the Halloween bulk packages will be available to purchase, and he came back with this. "Halloween pops and gummy bears are available now at thousands of health food stores across the county. All our seasonal bags sell out very fast, so you may miss it if you keep reading this!!!" They are also available in bulk at www.GreenCupboards.com.
