As GreenCupboards has evolved, so have I.  Becoming aware of the issues and products was the first step in making some changes.  We are now using many more eco-friendly products around our home—which I feel especially good about now that we have three grandkids visiting.  Those precious little ones have been a big reason for me to put more thought into the products I use.  Anyone who has been around toddlers knows they “test” everything by putting it in their mouths—and have no queasiness about eating things off the floor.  So non-toxic has taken a big leap in importance and “green” products tend to be much better choices than “traditional” ones in this regard.

The biggest change for us is probably using more eco-friendly soaps:  dishwasher, dishwashing by hand, laundry and personal care.  We have also switched to using a number of more eco friendly cleaning products including prewash stain remover for clothing, stain and odor remover for carpeting, toilet bowl cleaner, shower cleaner and stainless steel cleaner.  Who knew that you could clean your shower without getting a headache!!  I will have to admit that Spokane County’s ban, in July, 2008, on phosphate containing dishwashing products contributed to our making this change too.  I expect that other regions will also adopt similar mandates, and it’s nice to know there are some “green” options that really work.

Stay tuned to find out my Number One favorite Green Product!!
