After exploring a few ways to green my wardrobe and personal care, I feel it necessary to dive further in and look at ways to green my weekend entertainment. Here are five things you can do instead of going out on the town for the next few weeks, that will reduce your carbon footprint.

1. Host a dinner: Hosting dinner parties can be a lot of fun, especially with a few close friends. Instead of all the ladies meeting for dinner on Saturday night, consider having it at one of your homes, making the food organically and from scratch, and exchanging fun conversation while preparing the meal.

2. Drinks: While the bar scene can be fun at times, consider just how large of an impact it has on the environment. Gather with friends in someone's home for a fun-filled evening with organic drinks. Recommendation: "Naked" brand wines have a fresh, raw flavor and aroma, tasting naturally delicious, not synthetic.

3. Movies: Once again, instead of going to a theater (which generally costs about $20 for a couple now), watch one at home. This saves the gas, money, environment, and all of the unnecessary calories of movie theater popcorn!

4. Take a hike: If the weather is nice in your area this time of year, try doing something completely different from the normal weekend activities and do a zero-carbon emissions hike. This can be a fun bonding experience for you and whoever you are hiking with, good exercise, and serve as great weekend entertainment.

5. Relax: A lot of people have this idea that weekends are a time to catch up on everything you didn't accomplish during the week, running errands all over town, running kids from game to game, and grabbing fast food in between the busy activities. Try at least occasionally to relax at home on the weekends. At least some of the errands can probably be run on the way to and from work during the week, which can free up some weekend time for rest and relaxation.
