America loves its automobile. It is normal for a person to own their own car, or two. But cars are one of the reasons for America’s high carbon emissions. Instead of driving your personal automobile everywhere, here are some greener alternatives for transportation.
Bus,train, or subway: Busses, trains and subways are a great way to get around. They move a lot of people in one trip, so it is more sustainable than taking individual modes of transportation. It can also be easier on your wallet, as you will not have to pay for gas or parking. Public transportation can be a more relaxing experience than driving yourself, since you are not getting mad at the guy who just cut you off, or fighting for the last parking space. The time spent in travel can be used to increase personal productivity, returning e-mails, reading the newspaper, or doing homework.
Walking: Walking is a zero emissions mode of transportation. It is a great way to stay in shape, especially if you lack the time for physical fitness otherwise. While walking may be limited by distance, a walk to the bus stop is still better than nothing.
Biking: Biking is also a zero emissions way of getting around. With a bike, you are able to go faster than walking, and travel

farther distances with the same physical benefits as walking. Most buildings have a place to lock-up your bike somewhere on-site. Biking is especially fun in the spring and summer months.
