The Amazon Kindle

The Amazon Kindle

You may like the way the books smell, you may like being able to hold it in your hand and turn the pages. However, we are in the beginning of a technological revolution in the way we read; not only books, but also magazines and newspapers. People can now read their newspapers on their computers, a magazine off of a phone. The need for paper literature is dwindling. Even in schools, papers are now being written using computers, and e-mailed to professors.

Some people say that this is taking technology too far. They say that traditions are being shattered, because the tangibility of literature is being lost. Yet from an environmental standpoint, this transition is a good thing. Especially for periodicals like newspapers that are often discarded after one read. Amazon.com has come out with a device called the Kindle, used for reading books, newspapers, and magazines on its screen. It is like the ipod for literature.

Those who own a Kindle do not need to travel any farther than the device to purchase books, newspapers, and magazines all available via the Kindle. The world (and how we perceive it) is changing. Many of these changes have environmental issues on the wrong end, but not this issue. It is a trade of tradition vs. what is sustainable, and this change in technology is good for the environment and its sustainability. It is up to you to decide how you read, if you are impartial, or eco-friendly then you should make the switch. It is easy to do, and in most cases you will save money.
