Move, Learn, Eat

Sorry “Eat, Pray, Love,” you’ve been dumped.  A new world perspective is circulating in the cyberspace bubble, and it’s one-upped you in the category of inspiration.  On August 3^rd, independent Australian filmmaker, Rick Mereki, released three short films each lasting one minute titled “Move”, “Learn”, and “Eat” on his Vimeo account.  In the past 48 hours they’ve caused a rumble among bloggers, Tweeters, Tumblr’s, and Facebooking fiends.  OK Magazine has stated it best; these videos have “gone viral”.

Searching for inspiration?  Look no further.  Twitter aficionados say, “Do not watch these videos if you don’t have money to travel,” and “This is LIFE” while Tumblr enthusiasts have labeled them “clever, compelling, creative,” “incredible,” and “the definition of happiness.”  These films are simple, clean, elegant, vibrant and exciting.  Accompanied by clear piano melodies they highlight simplicity as they portray themes of harmony with movement, knowledge, and food throughout various landscapes, countries, and cities of the world.

Even more inspiring, is the trip that led to the making of “Move”, “Learn”, and “Eat”.  Commissioned by the Student Travel Association of Australia, these videos are intended for commercial value.  But who wouldn’t want to buy tickets now?  The three men who embarked on this journey were Rick Mereki, Andrew Lees, and Tim White.  Over the course of 44 days they traveled to 11 countries.  Their hope was to create beautiful, compelling films based on the three linear concepts.  Mereki describes it on his Vimeo page as “a trip of a lifetime”.

But what do these videos have to do with being sustainable?  The overwhelming theme of an appreciation for the world around us struck me during these films.  Take a break from your day.  In only three minutes you’ll see what I mean.

One good looking tractor.
